Reykjavik … Iceland Trip – Part 1 …

Frozen Reykjavik Lake 1Hey everyone … so at the moment we are at my Auntie’s house in London having breakfast before heading off to the airport for our flight back to Dubai … but I quickly wanted to do this post from the first part of our trip in Iceland … We spent the first two nights in Reykjavik and really had a great time in the city … we didn’t get to explore much of the nightlife which I hear is really great … but I’m sure we will be back in Iceland again sometime …

_MG_7132-1The first night after we got to the apartment we were renting … we headed out to explore a bit and to get some dinner … Perry found this little restaurant called The Noodle Station which got some good reviews …

_MG_7114-1It had a very simple menu … basically it was Noodle soup and you got to choose either Chicken, Beef or Vegetables to go with it … we both opted for the Chicken which was delicious …

It was snowing so hard that night too … made me excited … and with all the Christmas Decorations up it was feeling like an actual Winter Wonderland …

We wandered up and down the street a little stopping to look at what the Icelandic’s refer to as Super Jeeps … basically a car jacked up on these massive tyres …

_MG_7141-1 _MG_7151-1_MG_7155-1We spotted this cute little bookshop & cafe which looked really nice … although I then found a Yarn shop so I got pretty side tracked …

Look at all the Icelandic Jumpers!!! … I’d have probably bought one or the yarn to make one myself if I actually thought I’d ever wear it … but frankly its not the most practical thing to own when living in the desert …

_MG_7177-1_MG_7181-1We also walked up to the end of the street to see the famous Hallgrímskirkja Church … it has a very unique architecture and is really quite pretty to look at …

_MG_7196-1 _MG_7206-1That night we went on a organised trip out to try and see the Northern Lights … I wasn’t holding out much hope considering how cloudy the sky was and the fact that it was snowing like crazy too … and low and behold we didn’t see anything that night …

_MG_7221-1 _MG_7223-1But the next morning after we got up and got ourselves sorted we headed out to explore the city on foot …

We both wrapped up nice and warm and headed off down towards the frozen pond …

Perry wearing the HAT I made him for Christmas …

_MG_7277-1Once on the other side of the pond we came across this cute little bakery where we stopped for some food … and Milk … I have to say the milk in Iceland just tastes delicious … Perry drank it whenever he could …

_MG_7305-1 _MG_7309-1We then carried on walking around to the other end of the pond …

I have to say there is something really beautiful about graveyards when they are all covered in snow like this …

_MG_7345-1

This frozen water feature looked pretty impressive …

By this time the sun had risen about as far as it was going to go … and people were crossing the frozen pond on foot … some even pushing their baby’s in prams …

Then we came across the duckies, geese and swans …

The cute little starling photo above was taken by Perry … came out beautifully …

_MG_7474-1

_MG_7477-1We then headed back up towards the main shopping streets of the city to have a wander around …

_MG_7484-1 _MG_7490-1 _MG_7501-1 _MG_7505-1

I have to say Perry is a little obsessed with his Ice Cream … he loves it in any weather … so of course when we came across this Ice Cream Parlour we had to go in and get some for him …

_MG_7512-1 _MG_7513-1

We came across another beautiful yarn store …

_MG_7515-1 _MG_7516-1

I could have literally spent hours in there … but eventually we had to move on … we did however stop and stare at all the delicious looking chocolates in the sweet shop …

_MG_7524-1 _MG_7525-1

We actually bought a couple bars of the chocolates below to try them out … they are made locally so we were interested in seeing what they were like …

_MG_7526-1 _MG_7528-1 _MG_7532-1 _MG_7536-1 _MG_7540-1

We both loved this store … if we had space in our bags we both could have easily bought a lot of stuff here … this candle below was probably one of my favourite things they had in there …

_MG_7541-1 _MG_7545-1

Loved this sign outside the Whats On information centre …

_MG_7546-1 _MG_7548-1

A quick stop for a Chocolate Crepe …

_MG_7553-1 _MG_7556-1

Perry finally found a wedding band he liked at a locally owned jewellery shop so we left it at the store to get resized … and while we waited we had some yummy coffee …

_MG_7559-1Back home and I assessed the yarn I had bought … so many colours … so many options of things to knit … quite excited by it all …

_MG_7572-1

That is it for this post …

Stay tuned for more tomorrow …

Till next time …
