Perry’s Birthday … Exciting News & Taking The Next Step …

_MG_7917-1Hey everyone … so we have some exciting news to share today … but first off its Perry’s Birthday today … as he is off in Saudi again this week we celebrated his birthday over the weekend … trying to do things he wanted to do among the mountain of errands we had to fit in as well …

DSC01705 _MG_9104-1The last couple years have had some ups and downs for us since we moved to Dubai … mostly it has always worked out for the best … and now that we seem to have finally got everything sorted it looks like were up for another big change …
DSC04428-1 _MG_4571-1Mostly these changes have to do with Perry but they obviously affect me too … firstly Perry has been spending a lot of time over the last couple years getting ready for and applying to MBA programs … he’s been accepted onto an Executive MBA course which is a joint MBA between London Business School and Columbia Business School … It was one of the ones whose course was most appealing to him too …
_MG_3902-1 _MG_3895-1 _MG_3941-1Starting from May 2015 he’ll be doing that … what this means for us is he will be in either London or New York every month for 3-5 days to attend his classes … and I’ll hopefully be joining him on a few of those trips as well …
IMG_2258-1 IMG_2129 _MG_0363-1 Paris 9Our second bit of news which I think will have a bigger impact on our lives is Perry has been offered a new job … its for a company working in Saudi Arabia and career wise is a big step up for him … the icing on the cake really with this job was they are more than happy to give him all the time off he needs for the MBA … which when you add it up is actually quite a lot …
_MG_4064-1 _MG_3923-1 _MG_3741-1a _MG_3628-1He will have massively more responsibility and actually gets to do all the things he really wants to do … so it makes sense to make the move now … on the down side the job is based in Saudi Arabia … in either case Perry has always made it clear to them that we wouldn’t be moving to Saudi if he took the job …
_MG_2642-1 _MG_1228-1 _MG_3819-1Additionally he told them that I have a job which I enjoy and he’s not about to ask me to quit work and move to Saudi … so for now we will carry on the way we are going at the moment … he flies out for the week and flies back to Dubai for the weekends … its pretty much how we’ve been living since the start of this year anyway … He’s been on projects outside of Dubai since then and hasn’t been around during the weeks so it won’t be much different going forward …
DCIM102GOPRO _MG_7641-1 _MG_6747-1While we are not planning to change our living situation yet we are thinking of eventually moving to Bahrain … My employment contract has always been a temporary one … I was only supposed to have the job for 6 months and I’ve been here 18 so far … so I feel really lucky as it is … So even though we haven’t set a date for this move yet, we think it will be sometime over the next year … my job is likely to come to an end sometime over the next few months as the project I am on finally wraps up … and it would be best to move before Perry starts the MBA as moving is going to be a whole lot of stress in itself … let alone trying to organise that while studying as well having a full time job …
DSC04002-1 _MG_9731-1 - CopyPerry’s new job will be in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia which is about a 1hr drive from Bahrain over the Causeway … so if we lived in Bahrain he could come home every night which is something we both really want to have back … neither of us enjoy living apart from each other most of the week so this makes the most sense for us …
_MG_6193-1 _MG_6243-1 _MG_4998-1And that pretty much sums up the changes we’ve been going through around here … I just wanted to end this post with a few funny thoughts …
  1. There is no Ikea in Bahrain … we both quite like Ikea … so if we want to go the nearest one will be in Damman in Saudi … so we will likely be going to Saudi on a weekend day trip to Ikea … for some reason I find this very amusing …
  2. As Perry will be in London or New York every other month and wont be carrying much luggage wise … I’ve jokingly (actually quite seriously) been referring to him as my Yarn Mule …
  3. It astonishes me as to how affordable Bahrain is compared to Dubai at least in terms of rentals … for the same rent we are currently paying for our 2 bed apartment you could get a villa with the bills included …
  4. I’m loving the idea of a garden with high walls so the boys can get a chance to go outside … oh and I can’t wait to see how they approach stairs … they’ve never come across stairs before …

It looks like our original plans when we set out to move to Dubai have since adapted and changed … Our Adventures In The Middle East is going to be moving to Bahrain sometime over the next year … As exciting as that is … it will be sad to leave Dubai and the friends we have made here …

Most of all though I want to state here how incredibly proud I am of Perry … whilst we have both been going through this process together it is still his achievement and I can’t even put into words how proud I am of what he has achieved … and with today also being his Birthday I thought it was fitting to share this post on this day and to finally share this news that we’ve been keeping quiet about for so long …

That is it for now …

Till next time …

Mina X

P.S. Photos throughout the post are just a few favourites from the last few years …

  1. Happy birthday Perry.
Mina and Perry I love reading your blogs but this one is a very special one with so many excellent photos and news. I think as a couple you are putting down some great career and financial foundations that in the years ahead you will look back and say how good it was to do it while you were able and let’s face it living in Dubai! Has been a real hardship! Look forward to coming to Bahrain in the years to come ( another Grand Prix I can tick off!!) and maybe Saudi ikea! Mum and I are really proud of you both and some what jealous of your lifestyle! Keep the blog going its great.
    Best wishes, P&P
