South Africa – Safari Photos … All The Other Animals …

_MG_0946-1OK so after my rather wording post about the BIG FIVE yesterday I’m going to try and keep the words to a minimum in this one … so scroll on down and enjoy the photos with small descriptions where relevant …

All photos were taken over the four game drives we did …

_MG_0974-1 _MG_0961-1 _MG_0991-1 _MG_0997-1 _MG_1050-1Lots of pretty views … and a picture of one of our Ranger’s Sarah from behind …

These animals are the Greater Kudu … a type of woodland antelope native to the area …

_MG_1110-1

_MG_1264-1A Herd of Greater Kudu in the Cheetah’s area …

_MG_1270-1We came across this remains of a Buffalo carcass … which the Ranger said was rather odd as there are no Buffalo in the Cheetah’s area and they have no idea how it got there … all a little creepy …

_MG_1275-1

Sunset over the mountains …

_MG_1279-1Those little vertical looking marks on the mountainside are Giraffe … it turns out there is a farm neighbouring the Lodge and they keep Giraffe amongst other animals there … our Ranger explained they don’t have Giraffe in the Park as it is not a native species to this particular area and the SAN Parks authority won’t allow non native species … which is fair enough …

_MG_1288-1

Springbok … springing away … apologies for the slightly fuzzy photo … moving car, bad light and all that …

_MG_1303-1 _MG_1307-1

A stop for evening drinks on a mountain top and our first taste of Kudu Biltong … Biltong is a kind of jerky made in South Africa … it was actually really tasty stuff … that bad did not last long …

More Kudu … they were everywhere …

_MG_1535-1 _MG_1338-1 _MG_1548-1

Passed some Black Wildebeest

_MG_1676-1

Came across this group of Male Red Hartebeest … fighting it out …

_MG_1725-1

If you couldn’t tell the one on the far left one and the other two follow along …

_MG_1730-1

_MG_1743-1Our Ranger pointing out the Monkeys …

_MG_1760-1 _MG_1767-1_MG_1794-1Some more Springbok … springing along …

_MG_1894-1On our way back to the Lodge after one of our game drives we drove past this watering hole and spotted these Kudu stopping for a drink …

_MG_1901-1

Mongoose scampering away …

_MG_2088-1 _MG_2103-1

Spotted some Cape Mountain Zebra’s on a Moutainside … they are slightly different from the regular Zebra’s … which we also saw but the photos didn’t turn out too great …

_MG_2108-1 _MG_2114-1Spotted a small group of Oryx grazing away …

_MG_2120-1 _MG_2165-1

Wildebeest crossing the road … and the rest of the herd charging away …

_MG_2176-1

_MG_2360-1 _MG_2363-1

More Cape Mountain Zebra …

_MG_2382-1

Guinea Fowl running around like loonies …

_MG_2481-1 _MG_2484-1Back on the same mountain top as at the top of this post … this time in the morning stopping for tea and biscuits … we also spotted some Zebra and Red Hartebeest (see above photo) …

_MG_2485-1 _MG_2487-1There are some more Zebra and Red Hartebeest in the one above too …

_MG_2492-1 _MG_2493-1 _MG_2496-1Loved this view …

_MG_2500-1 _MG_2506-1

_MG_2524-1

Spotted some Wild Ostrich as we were heading back to the Lodge …

_MG_2529-1We also came across this Puff Adder snake crossing the road … this is rather odd as at this time of the year its usually hibernating … its responsible for the majority of deaths caused by Snakebites in all of Africa …

_MG_2557-1

As we were leaving the Lodge after checking out these two guys crossed our path …

That as they say is that … this is officially the last of the posts from our trip to South Africa … hope you enjoyed the photos and posts as much as I did writing them … if you have any questions about where we stayed or what we did just leave me a comment and I’ll try to answer them the best I can …

As always thanks for reading …

I have some exciting news to share with you all but I’ll be posting that in a couple days so stay tuned …

Till next time …

Mina X

P.S. Today marks our three year Blogiversary … seriously I never thought I’d actually be able to keep this up for this long …
