South Africa – On the Road & Cape L’Agulhas … Southern Most Point of Africa …

Welcome back to our next South Africa installment … so finally we are heading out onto the road for the actual Road Trip part of our holiday … we were up super early in the morning and actually got to watch the sunrise while having breakfast … we were all checked out and loaded up in the car ready to go by 8am which was perfect because we had a long day of driving ahead …

_MG_9418-1Leaving Cape Town early morning with a rainbow on the way out …

_MG_9430-1 _MG_9442-1Originally when we started planning our trip we quickly realised we could have done with having a couple more days in our itinerary … it would have made things a little less compacted and also we could have spaced out our driving a little more with extra time to stop and detour along the way … in the end we are really happy with everything we managed to fit in this trip and in reality getting any more time off work was not really an option for us either …

_MG_9447-1 _MG_9504-1The one main reason the driving part of our trip felt quite rushed is we didn’t want to drive when it got dark … its easier to miss turnings and the roads don’t have that much street lighting so didn’t want the risk of accidents … so we had to get to wherever we were headed before 6pm …

_MG_9546-1 _MG_9547-1 _MG_9555-1The first stop along the way for us was Cape L’Agulhas … its the Southern most tip of Africa and also where the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean meet …

_MG_9558-1 _MG_9560-1It was a lovely clear day with blue skies … some clouds … and pretty waves … not to mention more beautiful thatched cottages …

_MG_9570-1 _MG_9572-1 _MG_9578-1 _MG_9582-1We pulled over at a little cove and got out to go for a wander … it wasn’t too cold as such but the wind was pretty strong …

The jacket I got was actually from the mens section (the ladies jackets were too short in the sleeves for me) … and it fits Perry just as well …

The waves came crashing in pretty strong …

And Perry went down to check out the rock pools …

_MG_9646-1We then headed along the walkway following the sign to the Southern most Tip of Africa!

_MG_9665-1 _MG_9667-1 _MG_9677-1The walkway was brilliant for a number of reasons … one it protects the surrounding vegetation from getting trampled … and also stops you getting sand in your shoes … which is a mega pet hate of mine …

_MG_9680-1 _MG_9684-1This information board was great at showing the differences in what lives in the two different oceans that meet here …

_MG_9691-1One thing that was quite odd that we noticed early one when we first parked up … was that there were oranges all over the beach … at first we only saw one or two and thought someone had left them behind … then we spotted more floating in the water … in the rock pools … between the rocks and all over the beach … it turns out that a box of oranges must have fallen off a shipping container and these were washed to shore in the waves … we saw several people picking some up to take away with them …

Another visitor having fun with some sea weed …

Perry and I at the Southern most Tip and right where the two Ocean’s meet … we finished up at the beach and headed back to the car in time as pretty soon after we hit the road again it started raining … again we got super lucky with the weather …

_MG_9718-1That is it for this post …

Till next time …
