Statue Of Liberty & Elis Island … New York City …

_MG_5054-1On the Sunday morning we were in New York Perry and I had arranged to meet up with Laura and James down by Battery Park to go visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island … but with all the fun that is Jet Lag we were actually up and pretty awake by around 7am … so we headed out early … had breakfast and were at the park by 8am …

We got our tickets and were straight onto one of the Ferry Boats pretty quickly … we actually made it on at the beginning of loading for the next slot so we managed to get good seats at the back of the boat on the open deck …

The Ferry filled up fast and it wasn’t long before we were on our way …

The morning had started off a little cool and cloudy … but by the time we got to Liberty Island it was well and truly sunny and heating up …

Not an often seen view of the statue …

It was really nice to just wander around the island … enjoying the views and getting to see the Statue of Liberty up close …

I’m also really glad we did this early in the day … it was certainly getting busier on the island as we left to head to Ellis Island …

Ellis Island was also really interesting … we took some time to wander round the exhibits and see the stuff they had on display … the building itself was pretty amazing too …

By the time we were done here though we were all a little tired … and hungry … Laura and James had plans for the afternoon so I perused her guide book for ideas of places to go for some food after we got back to Manhattan …

After we got off the Ferry at Battery Park we said our goodbyes and headed up through the financial district to a place called Barbalu … The book noted that the restaurant and that area in general had been pretty much destroyed during Hurricane Sandy and had recently been rebuilt/opened …

It was really nice inside and the service was incredibly warm and friendly …

The food was pretty awesome too …

After lunch we wandered over towards the freedom tower and walked around the 9/11 memorial and tribute centre for a bit …

Honestly by the time we were done with all of this we were both pretty tired … so we took it easy for the rest of the afternoon and did some shopping at a few places as we meandered our way back towards our hotel … I think we were both asleep by around 9pm that night …

That is it for this post …

Till next time …

  1. There was a documentary about this new “world trade center” building on TV the other night. It’s giving a new shape to the skyline in New York. The Pics are amazing. XXX
