Washington Sq Park … Madison Sq Park … & Catching Up With Friends … New York City …

_MG_4136-1On our second day in New York we were up bright and early in the morning … we had both pretty much crashed out the night before after our busy day pounding the streets … but we were up and refreshed for the day ahead … starting with a spot of breakfast …

_MG_3999-1I had mentioned previously that Perry had stayed at this hotel before … so he suggested we try the little cafe on the corner for breakfast as he went there regularly last time he was here and thought the food was pretty good …

_MG_4006-1 _MG_4018-1It wasn’t a bad breakfast … in fact it was pretty lovely … no fuss simple and yummy breakfasts … in fact their Eggs Benedict was pretty much perfect with lovely runny yolks … I tend to judge a restaurants ability to do a good breakfast based on the quality of their Eggs Benedict …

So after we were all fed and full … we walked down towards Washington Square Park … for no other reason that to just go for a walk though the Greenwich Village neighbourhood and poke our heads into any stores that take our fancy …

_MG_4028-1 _MG_4035-1 _MG_4038-1As it was a Saturday we soon learnt that a lot of small markets were popping up around the place … we ended up walking through one on our way to the park …

I couldn’t help myself when I saw the watermelon stall … even better was the watermelon was seedless … MASSIVE WIN!

I caught Perry oogling at this pretty old car …

We finally made it to Washington Square Park and grabbed an ice cream before heading inside …

You know when they say owners and their dogs tend to look alike … well I think these two fit the bill …

_MG_4085-1

We came across this guy playing his grand piano …

It was a lovely sunny warm day … and there were lots of kids running around and playing in the water fountain … having a great time from the looks of it too …

_MG_4136-1

This kid was literally having the time of his life running around chasing these bubbles …

There was a big variety of performers in the park that morning … its one of the reasons I like this place at the weekend … its nice to just sit down and people watch …

_MG_4194-1

We were listening to the band playing in the above picture when the next we knew this ‘On The Go’ Circus came past …

This Sad Clown seemed a little confused …

We were conscious of the time by this point and decided to start heading back up town towards Madison Square Park where we had arranged to meet up with our friends Laura & James for lunch … they are in New York for a 3-4month stint and only got there the week before we did … so we had planned a few things to do together over the weekend …

I really like the Flatiron building … I’ve always found it very interesting …

_MG_4251-1

When we showed up at the park we quickly realised it had been taken over by a BBQ Block Party/Festival for the weekend … we had originally decided to meet them at the park to go for lunch at the original Shake Shack set up in the park … but at this point I was more worried about trying to find them in the crowds …

_MG_4254-1

Thankfully we somehow managed to find each other and quickly decided we’d rather have BBQ for lunch instead of burgers … so we headed off and picked a stall to get something to eat …

_MG_4268-1 _MG_4270-1 _MG_4286-1 _MG_4277-1

It was getting quite hot by this time …

_MG_4281-1 _MG_4289-1

Thankfully we managed to find a shaded spot in the park to perch while we ate …

_MG_4293-1 _MG_4296-1

Perry and I had picked up a little book for Laura and James … all about how to survive the “Worst Case Scenarios” in New York City … like how to get over Museum Fatigue … or what to do if you get bitten by a Rat … and other such useful information …

_MG_4303-1As you can see Laura was pretty excited … and as much as its a bit of a novelty book there was … as it turns out … some useful tid bits throughout …

_MG_4314-1 _MG_4323-1

We eventually wandered off to get away from the crowds and head over to the Highline Park … but that is a post for another day …

_MG_4326-1

We ended up stopping quickly at a Home Depot on our way to use the toilets … and the atrium was pretty amazing and unexpected when you looked up …

_MG_4328-1 _MG_4334-1Love the tree lined streets of New York …

Anyway that is it for this one …

Till next time …
