Tochal Views & Dizi Lunch … Tehran, Iran …

_MG_9682-1On our Second full day in Tehran we headed up the Tochal Mountain which is part of the Alborz mountain range to the North of Tehran … there is in fact a ski resort there which is popular during the winter months when there is sufficient snow to ski … its actually been one of the long term things on my ‘Life To Do List’ to go skiing in Iran … however that was not the plan for this trip … Perry and I along with my Cousins Saghi and Maani headed up the mountain with my Mum …

_MG_9649-1 _MG_9653-1 _MG_9655-1We had intended on catching a bus to the top where the cable cars start from … owing to the fact that it is quite a long walk and that Maani is still recovering from a bad car accident … but as it was taking forever for a bus to arrive we started to walk anyway …

We stopped about half way up for a break … it was surprisingly warm on that mountainside …

Perry and I decided to keep going while the others waited for the bus … we made it most of the way up before the bus finally caught up with us and we hoped on for the last bit catching up with the rest of my family …

Once at the top we had planned to take the cable car up to the top where the ski resort is … I had been up there once before years ago in the middle of summer … there were still patches of snow and it was really cold … so I was looking forward to it … but as it happened the lifts were closed for maintenance that day … it wasn’t much of a problem in the end … we still got to enjoy the views from where we were …

As sunny as it was up there the atmosphere was still quite polluted over Tehran … the skies were going grey threatening rain and the view was a little hazy …

But even so it was nice to get up there again … get in some exercise and enjoy an ice cream too …

Heading back down wasn’t too much of a problem and if anything not taking the Cable Cars turned out to be a good thing … we had arranged to meet up with my Mum’s cousin Vahideh for lunch at a restaurant in the old part of Tehran and now we had plenty of time to get there …

What we ended up having for lunch was Dizi … which is a traditional Iranian dish … also known as ABGOOSHT … its a dish of cooked meat, chickpeas, potatoes and other beans/spices/etc cooked in a stoneware pot … the juices are eaten seperately with bread as a kind of soup … and the rest is all mashed up together and also eaten with bread / herbs / salad / etc …

_MG_9794-1 _MG_9796-1 _MG_9800-1 _MG_9801-1Its just really good simple food … and this restaurant is actually called Dizi … there is no menu as this is only one thing they serve …

My Mum’s cousin Vahideh was able to join us and she brought along her adorable chubby cheeked granddaughter too … those cheeks are just so utterly pinch-able …

We headed home afterwards to rest for a couple hours before heading out again later in the afternoon … it wasn’t until we were home for a couple hours when that Perry realised how much sun he had actually caught that morning … his face was pretty pink … thankfully it wasn’t too bad and it cleared up in a couple days …

Be sure to check back later to see what else we got up to …

Till next time …
