Big Bazaar … Tehran, Iran …

IMG_1142-1So I have a lot of posts planned from our recent trip to Iran so bear with me … I’m going to try and space them out over the next few weeks so its not too overwhelming with photos and stuff … For this first post its all about the Big Bazaar in Tehran … you can see my PREVIOUS post on the Big Bazaar from my solo trip last year … and read on to see and read about this most recent visit …

We left my Auntie Nahid’s home early and other than her my Mum and cousin Saghi joined us for the day out …

We took the metro there … thankfully it wasn’t too busy and in reality the Metro in Tehran is a great way of getting around … its cheap … fast and most importantly air conditioned too …

From the metro we just walked the short distance to the Bazaar main entrance … and as we got closer the crowds got bigger …

Just on our way in …

I love going to the Bazaar’s in Iran … they are always busy … its still a place lots of people will go to shop for certain things (although there are plenty of malls/shopping centres/etc all over Iran nowadays) … I also love it because you don’t get hassled as much as you do in other Bazaar’s or Souks around the Middle East … if anything half the time you have to wait around until someone can be bothered to come and serve you …

The Bazaar in Tehran as with most others around Iran is split into sections … here we headed into the Persian Rugs area …

One of the stores we went into was set up like a rug gallery … it had some of the most beautiful and intricately detailed rugs I’d seen … the ones in the images below are made out of silk …

The rug my Mum is kneeling next to was a beautiful double sided silk rug … its so delicate that this sort of rug would never be used on the floor … if anything it would actually work as a bedspread …

My Mum who is a recent iPhone convert also took a lot of photos … The photos in this post and others have a few of my Mum’s pictures thrown in the mix as well …

We were headed to the home/kitchen ware section …

On our way out of the Bazaar … waiting for the others to catch up before we headed off to lunch … oh and this little child (below) was just too cute with his bag of sweets …

Someone had a grumpy face going on …

We headed to this restaurant called Moslem for lunch … the food is really good and its a really popular place to eat … the takeaway side of the business does a roaring trade … I loved their method of delivering the food to their customers by passing down the meals through a hatch in the ceiling …

The restaurant itself is set up more like a canteen … its so crowded and everyone just shares tables … you basically just have to find a section with enough empty chairs for your group to sit down … nothing fancy … but the food is definitely worth it … although I’d probably suggest getting the food to takeaway and eating it on a bench in a nearby park if crowded canteen style seating is not your thing …

That is it for this post … stay tuned for more later this week …

Till next time …
