Museum of Islamic Art … Doha, Qatar …

Hey everyone … whilst we were in Doha last weekend we checked out the Museum of Islamic Art … I had heard a lot about this place … the exhibits were meant to be interesting but its the architecture of the building I was most looking forward too …

We both really loved it inside … we got there a little before 2pm on the Friday (which is when they open that day) so we did wander around the park nearby until the museum opened … but I’m saving those for another post …

When we first went in it was really quiet and peaceful … the space was just amazing … not overly elaborate but the level of detail was pretty incredible at the same time …

The little coffee shop even sold Pashmak … which is like an Iranian form of Candy Floss!

The Coffee shop also boasted some pretty awesome views …

We worked our way down through the different exhibits on each floor …

_MG_7730-1We started out in the carpets section which included a lot of different examples from Iran as well as others … including this silk one … you can even see the areas where the thread has come away with use in the picture below …

There were a lot of different carved doors … which I really liked …

The pot above was really tiny … probably about the length of a finger … I think it was for perfume if I remember correctly …

There were many examples of different types of jewelry from all over Asia over different time periods …

Its nice to see even hundreds of years ago people were making notes in the margins …

And old school pen box and inkwell …

An old metal tray from Iran …

A collection of teeny tiny pots from Egypt …

A copy of the Shahnameh book from Iran …

This tiny copy of the Quran was about an inch in diameter …

Whereas this copy of the Quran was written in handwriting so small the whole book was only a few pages …

_MG_7846-1 _MG_7857-1 _MG_7851-1 After we had wandered all the exhibits Perry and I checked out the gift shop … I loved the gift shop … there were so many things in there that I wanted to get but I settled on a couple of notebooks to go with my ever increasing collection of notebooks …

We sat down to have a coffee at the little cafe in the lobby area … we both also noticed that by this time in the afternoon (around 4.30pm by then) the museum was a lot busier and not as peaceful as it was when we first walked in …

Honestly if you are ever in Doha and you only have time to do one thing while you are there … go to this museum … it has some great views of the city … a lovely park to walk around outside … beautiful architecture and interesting exhibits … and its a brilliant way to spend an afternoon …

I’ll be back soon with the last installment from our trip …

Till next time …
