The W Hotel … & Dinner At The Spice Market … Doha, Qatar …

So in this post I wanted to share a bit more about the hotel we stayed at in Doha and our experience of it … we actually spent both mornings we were in Doha at the hotel and even had dinner there on Friday night … we chose to stay at the W Hotel as Perry had stayed here before when he was in Doha for work …

It’s located in the West Bay area of Doha (whenever you see the skyscraper skyline of Doha that is West Bay) … and our room was pretty spacious considering it was just their standard room …

_MG_7568-1There was a fully stocked mini bar and a whole host of treats on the side to tempt you … including the complementary four mini cupcakes …

They even left a welcome message on the TV … something I’ve noticed hotels do more and more around this region …

Our room also came with a decently sized desk … massive wardrobes …

_MG_7573-1 _MG_7585-1This pretty cute little clock radio thing that I never quite figured out how to work …

_MG_7595-1And a reasonably sized bathroom too … there was a full bath and a decently sized shower cubicle too …

_MG_7574-1 _MG_7575-1 _MG_7584-1Not to mention these stones were pretty adorable …

_MG_7578-1The robes were so soft and cosy …

In the morning we got to see what the view was like from our room …

There is still alot of construction going on around Doha … its alot more noticeable than in Dubai … at least that was how I felt … our floor (and probably the other floors too but I didn’t check) had this cute little lounge area near the end of the corridor our room was at …

It had a clear view out towards the St Regis hotel and THE PEARL development which I wrote about on Wednesday …

I also had a lot of fun swinging around in the egg chair hung off the ceiling … I want one of these for my home … they are so much fun!

As we were heading down one morning Perry noticed this old school telephone in the lift lobby … he picked it up for some reason and as it turns out its a direct line to the reception … he was caught off guard when someone actually spoke to him … hence his blurry face here …

The Friday night we were there we had dinner at the Spice Market in the hotel … it was ranked as the 6th best restaurant in Doha on Trip Advisor and since we both love South East Asian cuisine we thought it would be a good bet for dinner …

2014-03-28 19.56.20-1After staring at the menu for a while trying to figure out what to go for … we decided to go for their set menu option … 10 plates of food over 5 courses to share and a bottle of wine was included with the price … a few reasons why we went for this option were:

  1. It was a great way to try out a bunch of different dishes in one meal
  2. We got to try a whole range of menu options we probably would not have ordered otherwise
  3. We didn’t want to be too safe and go with the stuff we usually order
  4. The bottle of wine which was included actually made the cost of the set menu really good value for money too which was an added bonus

So this is what we ended up eating …

2014-03-28 20.17.52-1

Left: Tuna Tartare (we had one each) – Right: Black Pepper Shrimp with Dried Pineapple

The shrimp was really yummy and the pineapple was surprisingly tasty … while the tuna tartare didn’t really taste of much … it was more just the texture in our mouths … but that could have been because the shrimps were a little spicy so the flavour of the tuna was probably affected by that … the Tuna was the least favourite dish of the 10 we tried for both of us …

2014-03-28 20.31.41-1

Left: Spiced Chicken Samosa with Coriander Yogurt – Right: Mongolian Lamb Satay

These two were both really tasty … I loved them both alot … if you go you should definitely try both of these starters …

2014-03-28 20.38.35-1

Left: Roasted Hammour with Malaysian Chili Sauce – Right: Snap Peas & Shitake Stir Fry

The Hammour was lovely and we managed to finish the dish off with no problem … the stir fry veg was a lovely accompaniment too …

2014-03-28 20.56.40-1

Left: Ginger Fried Rice – Right: Char Grilled Chicken with Kumquat Lemongrass Dressing

This course was so good I forgot to take a picture of it before we tucked into the food … it was just so much deliciousness … although by this point we were starting to get really full from all the food …

2014-03-28 21.23.18-1

Left: Thai Fruit Salad in Coconut Milk – Right: Chocolate Kulfi with Caramelised Banana and Popcorn

The Kulfi was really rich and yummy … the banana too was delicious … as was the fruit salad … it was a lovely way to round off the meal … The wine we had chosen worked really well with all the courses too which was great …

As we had a late checkout the next morning we took the opportunity to relax at the hotel before leaving after we checked out … Perry opted to have a bubble bath … while I relaxed in the swinging egg chairs reading my book …

_MG_8119-1Later we ordered some room service for lunch (its kind of become a tradition of ours that we have room service once while we stay at a hotel) … Perry had the burger and I had what turned out to be the monster of all Chicken Caesar Salads …

_MG_8122-1

That pretty much sums up our time at the W Hotel … it was really lovely and we enjoyed our stay there a lot … its conveniently located and about 20mins from the airport if there is no traffic …

That is it for this one … Stay tuned to see what else we got up to while we were visiting Doha …

Till next time …

Mina X
