The Pearl & The Villagio Mall … Doha, Qatar …

Hey everyone … so here is my first post on our time in Doha … I’ve kinda started off a little backwards in that these pictures are from our second day there … this is mostly because it’s going to take me a little longer to write the other posts and I just don’t have enough time to do that at the moment …

Anyway here we go …

On the Saturday morning we took it easy and stayed at the hotel to relax in the morning … we had managed to get a late checkout so Perry had a bath to relax while I rocked around in the egg chair in the lounge area on our floor reading a book … we also slept in and watched a movie … it was nice to just do nothing in particular for a few hours …

Eventually we packed up our stuff and checked out leaving our bags behind at the hotel and hopped in a taxi to the Pearl … we had both heard alot about the Pearl in Doha … it was talked about being the equivalent of Dubai Marina … so we were interested to see what it was all about …

When we first got there my initial impression was that it was really quiet … considering it was around 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon there were not that many people around … the actual development is circular in shape and goes out into the water with a central Island that appears to be still under development as you are not allowed onto the bridge that gets to it (you can see its taped off in the picture above) … so as Perry put it it looks like a cross between the Palm and the Marina in how the place looks …

Running in a ring around the circle of the Pearl is a series of high end designer stores and several restaurants dotted around … the shops and mini mall sections were pretty much empty except for a few shop assistants … I said to Perry it looked like we’d walked into a mall before they were ready to open … there was just no one really around …

We walked around a bit more and some of the restaurants were busier with the late lunch crowd … but after walking around for about 20mins we headed back to catch a Taxi from where we were initially dropped off …

Its a lovely area and it does feel really similar to Dubai Marina … and in all honesty while it would be really lively if there were more people around … I quite enjoyed it being quiet and peaceful … I imagine though in a few years once the development is finished properly and the infrastructure of the roads getting to here are improved it will get a lot busier …

We still had a couple hours to spare before we had to head to the airport so we thought we would get out of the heat and check out on of the bigger malls in Doha … the Villagio is styled with a Venetian theme … in every sense including a little canal with gondola rides available …

_MG_8172-1Other than the decor and the canal it was pretty much a standard mall … had all the same stuff as you would find in Dubai or anywhere else really …

It just all happened to look quite pretty … I was surprised by how dark it was inside though … all in all we only came here to kill some time … and we didn’t really have any space in our small carry on backpacks to fit anything even if there was something we wanted to get … so after wandering around for an hour we headed back to the hotel to grab our bags and headed to the airport …

Our flight ended up leaving late … but we got home shortly after midnight … so all in all it wasn’t too bad ..

That is it for this one … stay tuned for some more posts in the next few days …

Till next time …

Mina X

  1. The shopping center reminded me of The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, specially that they had the ceiling painted like sky!
