Hong Kong … Tsim Sha Tsui … The Avenue Of Stars & Dim Sum …

Hey everyone … so this is the first of my posts from our trip to Hong Kong … I already posted about our trip to see the PANDAS in Macau … it was the highlight of our trip but in reality it was all great fun … This first post will be mostly pictures from the morning of our first full day there …

As I had mentioned before both Perry and I seemed to have caught some sort of cold on the flight over to Hong Kong … and we both felt quite rough this first morning … combining that with having flown for about 14hrs within a 30hr period didn’t help matters much either … so we re-adjusted our expectations for what we would be able to do on this trip accordingly …

I had done a fair bit of research into what there was to do in Hong Kong and had mapped out the different places/things of interest to us that we wanted to see/do … once we realised we were ill we went back over the list and narrowed it down to the things we really wanted to do and the things we didn’t mind not doing, and those that we would like to do if we had time/energy to do it …

This meant we had a lot of time allowed for resting and sleeping … as it turned out this was the best way to go about it … it meant the time we did spend out and about we really enjoyed … The view from our room wasn’t too bad either …

So that first morning we set off and walked the 20-30 mins to the nearest MTR (train/underground) station … along the way we stopped to look into some of the shops … to grab a coffee and generally took our time along our way …

_MG_4574-1 _MG_4575-1 _MG_4580-1 _MG_4582-1 _MG_4583-1I thought this little iPod rip off was rather funny … the buttons are upside down …

_MG_4577-1_MG_4599-1The scaffolding on this whole building was made from Bamboo … we saw a lot of this bamboo scaffolding around … I didn’t mind it so much but it did make Perry nervous walking under it …

_MG_4604-1We also saw a lot of dried sea food and other such things being sold on the sides of the streets … I was never too sure what half the stuff was most of the time … let alone what they would make with them … it was interesting to see nonetheless …

_MG_4607-1 _MG_4609-1We took the MTR to the Tsim Sha Tsui station on the other side of the Harbour from Hong Kong Island (where we were staying) … and walked down to the waterfront Promenade …

_MG_4615-1 _MG_4619-1 _MG_4625-1From here we had pretty brilliant views of the Hong Kong skyline and the harbour … it was a much warmer day than we had expected … but still with a chill in the wind … the air in Hong Kong was also quite hazy most of the time we were there …

_MG_4630-1 _MG_4632-1 _MG_4635-1 _MG_4639-1 _MG_4653-1 _MG_4657-1 _MG_4664-1We walked along the waterfront until we got to the Clocktower … we took a seat on a bench … enjoyed the views and decided on a plan for the rest of the day before we kept going …

_MG_4666-1 _MG_4673-1 _MG_4677-1 _MG_4701-1 _MG_4706-1 _MG_4732-1We ended up going for a walk up Canton Road … which looked like the equivalent of Oxford Street …

_MG_4736-1We turned down a road which ran along side Kowloon Park to try and find somewhere to have some lunch … it took us a while to find a place … but in the mean time I was in love with these trees overhanging the street …

_MG_4748-1 _MG_4742-1 _MG_4761-1We finally decided to stop at this little restaurant down a side street … it was busy and full of locals so we figured it would be a good one to try …

_MG_4773-1The food as it turned out was pretty great … for what looked like a Chinese equivalent of a Fast Food Diner … Perry ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork (it was really really tasty stuff) with a side of Fried Rice … and I had my first round of Dim Sum while on this trip …

_MG_4770-1 _MG_4771-1It was a really good find for lunch and we both left absolutely stuffed afterwards … I will save the rest of the days photos for my next post … there were quite a lot of images and I didn’t want to overload this post with too many photos or words for that matter …

Till next time …
