Friday Weekly Roundup … Hong Kong … Macau … & Going Home …

Right … well first of all Happy New Year to everyone … We’re really looking forward to 2014 and all the new adventures we have to look forward to … it already looks like its shaping up to be an exciting year … nothing confirmed yet so I guess you will just have to wait and see until later … In the mean time here is what we got up to over this last week …

I’d like to say since being in Hong Kong/Macau keeping track of the days of the week has been a struggle … totally lost track of time and for some reason I believed today was Thursday … hence why my roundup post is a day late …

Anyway … last Thursday Perry and I headed into town with his mum to pick up a few things from Tunbridge Wells … and we had a relaxed evening at home chatting with his parents and watching Christmas TV … The UK and particularly the area around Perry’s parents home had gone through some crazy weather over the Christmas week … thankfully we were not too badly affected … a short water cut for a few hours and their landline/internet was out of action too … but some homes a couple streets over had lost all their power so in the grand scheme of things we lucked out …

I also spent Thursday evening re-packing our bags … we had seriously underestimated how much luggage space we would need when we came from Dubai … neither of us expected to get much in terms of Christmas gifts  and were completely overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of stuff we both received … you can see it all piled up on the sofa in the picture below …

20140103-183831.jpgBasically we had so many extra things to take back we actually had to borrow a suitcase from Perry’s parents just to fit it all in … anyway we left really early in the morning … the weather was horribly bad but we got to the airport safely thanks to Perry’s Dad for driving us there … check in went smoothly and we were soon settled down in the airport lounge having some breakfast before boarding …

20140103-183815.jpgThe flight was pretty uneventful … we watched some movies and there was quite a bit of turbulence on the way back to Dubai … but otherwise it was an easy going flight … we landed and got out the airport in less than 30mins which was great … we didn’t have to collect our suitcases as they were going straight to Hong Kong and we’d get them there … we just went straight home to bed and to see Hugo & Derek …

Our pet sitter has been amazing … keeping in constant touch with us while we’ve been away and sending us pictures and updates every other day to let us know how they are doing … and they were both fine when we got home … a bit unsure at first as to who we were when we first walked in but quickly recognised us and they were loving the attention all night …

20140103-183847.jpgWe were back at the airport again in the morning … and since we hadn’t had any breakfast yet we decided to indulge a bit and have a little Shake Shack to start of the day … not something we normally do but we were going on holiday after all …

20140103-183839.jpgWe browsed around Duty Free for a bit before we got on the plane … this flight was really good … watched more movies and ate plenty of food … and not too much turbulence this time which was great … at Hong Kong we got our bags and found the Shuttle Bus for our Hotel … we got checked in quickly and up to our room for the first night … we woke up in the morning with this as our view …

We had a great time in Hong Kong … although Perry and I seem to have caught some sort of cold/flu type thing on the flight over … both of us have been pretty ill the whole time we’ve been here … but even with all that we’ve had an amazing time … seen lots of things and still have had plenty of time to relax and sleep in the mornings …

We celebrated New Years Eve in Hong Kong at the top of Victoria Peak … watching the fireworks down in the Harbour … and we did the majority of things we wanted to do and see in Hong Kong … once it was clear how ill we were we re-thought our plans and dropped a few things from the list to allow more rest time in between doing things … which as it turns out was a really good idea … we enjoyed our trip more and weren’t absolutely exhausted the whole time either …

On our last day in Hong Kong before we set off for Macau … Perry and I wandered around the area near where we were staying to grab some lunch … we both felt quite ill that day and I was really fancying some sort of soup dish … we eventually decided on this little local cafe type place which was packed with locals … from what I remember we were the only non-locals in this place … and the food was pretty amazing … I had the yummiest Wonton Noodle Soup … and it was the perfect thing for my cold too …

20140103-183904.jpgWe hopped onto the Ferry over to Macau and again found our way to the hotel shuttle bus … we were staying at the Lisboa Hotel in the centre of Macau … (our hotel was the one on the right) …

20140103-184030.jpg

It was such a convenient location … right next to one of the main bus terminals … within walking distance to the historic districts of Macau … and with views of Macau Tower from our room too …

20140103-183823.jpgWe headed out to the MGM Hotel after we checked in to have some dinner and to take a look around … the main hotel atrium was pretty impressive …

20140103-183929.jpg 20140103-183938.jpg 20140103-183947.jpgWe had some pretty awesome Chinese food for dinner that night too … I had probably the most amazing steamed BBQ pork buns I’ve ever had … and I ordered them pretty much everywhere we went … these were by far my favourites …

20140103-183955.jpgAgain we did alot of things in Macau … really enjoyed our time there and did all of the main things we had set out to do … and we still had plenty of time to sit back and relax … we got back to Hong Kong earlier today and have checked into our last hotel next to the airport … our flight is really early in the morning so just taking it easy this evening and looking forward to getting back home tomorrow …

We’re both still pretty ill … sniffly and all … but definently on the mend … we’ve had an amazing holiday … even though we were both sick for all of it … and there is still so much more we could have seen and done in both Hong Kong and Macau … Neither Perry nor I would mind if we came back here again sometime for another trip …

Anyway that is it for me …

Till next time …
