Bastakiya … The Souks … & Museums In Old Dubai …

So I’m finally getting round to blogging the last post from Harri’s trip to Dubai … we spent her last full day here exploring the older parts of the City … mainly up around Bastakiya … the Creek, and the Spice Souk …

It all started with the Metro ride across the city …

_MG_2724-1The building the museum is housed in is one of Dubai’s old Fort’s which has been converted and preserved as a museum … it houses exhibits and artifacts documenting the history of the Emirate and is worth a visit …

_MG_2773-1 _MG_2775-1 They have exhibits including a lifesize model of the traditional homes the Emirati’s would have lived in …

_MG_2776-1 _MG_2780-1 _MG_2784-1 _MG_2787-1 The walls of the Fort …

_MG_2792-1 A scale model showing the size of Dubai in the year 1822 … now everything shown here as sand (and more) is all built up city areas …

_MG_2803-1 _MG_2808-1 _MG_2810-1 _MG_2827-1 _MG_2842-1 _MG_2845-1 The fishing and pearl diving exhibit was quite interesting … pearl diving was one of the main industries and sources of income before the city really started to grow …

_MG_2848-1Once we were finished at the museum we made our way back down to the waterfront to catch an Abra …

_MG_2852-1 _MG_2856-1 _MG_2859-1 _MG_2863-1The view of the restaurant we ate at from the water …

_MG_2872-1There was a wonderful breeze and it thankfully wasn’t too hot on the water … we had a brilliant ride up and down the creek …

_MG_2879-1 _MG_2887-1 _MG_2892-1 _MG_2873-1Our Abra driver above and the Customs sign at the mouth of the Creek before you enter the Gulf …

_MG_3034-1 _MG_3040-1 _MG_3044-1 _MG_3054-1Everyone seems to be getting into the National Day spirit … the UAE celebrates its 42nd year of its birth on the 2nd December this year …

_MG_3060-1 _MG_3063-1 _MG_3066-1After all the wandering around and at the end of a very packed week … we were both pretty tired … we headed home and enjoyed the last few hours with Harri at home before she left for the airport …

We loved having Harri over to stay … Hugo especially loved all the extra attention he got while she was around … Derek even warmed up to her eventually … it was sad to say goodbye but we will be seeing her in a few weeks when were back in the UK for Christmas!

Till next time …
