Thursday’s Weekly Roundup … Post Ramadan Lull …

Hello everyone … welcome to another weekly roundup of what we’ve been up to … its been a bit of a mixed week … the end of Ramadan has kind of thrown us off a bit … just as we have gotten used to the long afternoons at home with plenty of time to do things … we now have to go back to working a full day and the first week after Ramadan is always a bit of a shock to the system …

Last weekend was pretty relaxed … we went Jet Skiing on Friday morning (more about that tomorrow) … spent quite a bit of time at home … went to see Dispicable Me 2 one evening … as we left the cinema a little kid no taller than my knee slapped me as I walked past … not quite sure why but the Mum looked mortified and apologised … I actually thought it was quite funny …

I also made Fish cakes for the first time ever which were incredibly easy and delicious … along with a very tasty broccoli salad …

Saturday we took Hugo and Derek to the Vets … which they absolutely hated … I have never seen them so scared at the vets and they looked incredibly unimpressed when they had to have their temperature taken … the reason we took them in was they had been getting incredibly fussy with their food and Derek had lost a noticeable amount of weight and you could feel his backbone quite prominently through his skin … so just to be safe we wanted to get him and Hugo checked out to make sure there are no underlying issues …

The Vet was concerned about Derek’s weight loss although she noted he isn’t underweight just very lean … but we need to get him back up to the same weight as Hugo around 4.5kg … Derek is now at 4.1kg … and considering he has no other significant symptoms other than being disinterested in food he previously loved … he’s not lethargic and has lots of energy … the Vet said to just try varying the brands of food we give them … to keep an eye out for a list of potential symptoms … and to bring Derek back in a couple weeks to see if anything has changed …

We picked up some different brands of wet cat food on our way home and ever since they both seemed to have found their appetites again … which we are incredibly happy about … it seems the trip to the Vets and a little more variety to their diet was what they needed … the wet food we had previously been giving them was varied in flavours (there was a range of 8 different types) but all from the same brand … I guess they got tired of that brand’s food …

Anyway as we left home to take the boys to the vets we realised we hadn’t eaten any lunch and both of us were getting grumpy for lack of food … so the solution happened to be a surprisingly filling ceasar salad from a Starbucks Drive Thru …

photo 2 photo 1On Sunday I worked from home while Perry was back in the office … working from home has it’s perks … one of which is having possibly one of the best breakfasts ever … Marmite on toast with a mashed up soft boiled egg on top … AMAZING!!!

photo 4it was a relatively uneventful day until we had a leak in the kitchen in the middle of the night … thankfully the maintenance people came out relatively quickly and sorted the problem … but it still meant we didn’t get to sleep till about 2am …

Perry made a scrummy dinner on Monday night of Chicken with Asparagus and Peppers … simple but tasty … he even made an effort to present it nicely …

Monday was a tough first day back in the office for me … lots of stuff to do and this week has been chock full of meetings … Perry got home late as well but I had made a chicken curry which turned out much more successful than I had hoped for … it was the first time I’d attempted to make a curry completely from scratch so I’m glad it worked out well … will have to try some other types of curry soon …

Tuesday was an extra long day at work … but I met up with Ian and Sarah for dinner after at the Montgomerie Address Hotel in Emirates Hills … a place that is actually much more difficult to find when it’s dark and your not a 100% sure where your going … It was my first time there … so as is law in Dubai whenever you try to find somewhere for the first time … I got a little lost … got there in the end and we had a lovely evening catching up and celebrating Sarah’s new job …

Yesterday was another day full of meetings for me … but thankfully neither Perry nor I ended up working late … although I did fall asleep just after 10pm I was so shattered … this evening Perry and I are catching up with Terri and Cliff … who we haven’t seen since before Ramadan … going out for dinner which should be fun …

As for the weekend … well there is not much planned yet … I have a few new recipes I want to try out … and I know Perry has some work to do … but we will see what happens I guess …

That is it for this week …

Till next time …
