Caturday Updates From The Boys … & Our New Temporary Residents …

Hello Everyone and welcome to another Caturday post … the boys are doing really well since we got back from Istanbul … we seem to have fallen into a good routine with them … it usually involves waking up with Derek wedged between me and Perry in between our pillows and Hugo somewhere by our feet or the balcony door …

And if you have read our WEEKLY ROUNDUP post from Thursday you will know who our temporary residents are … yes Perry and I are currently Fostering 2 little kitten babies … they are proper tiny little ones at 4 weeks old …

Earlier in the week Perry had sent me a link to the FELINE FRIENDS FACEBOOK page which had a picture of a litter of kittens (who’s mother had to be put down) who needed to be fostered urgently … he did say I was only allowed to call them if I could promise I could let them go when the time came for them to be adopted …

As hard as it will be to say goodbye to them when the time comes I think it will be ok in the end … after all 4 cats in a 2 bed apartment is a bit cramped and verging on crazy cat territory … but as they are so young they wont be allowed to be adopted out till they are at least 12 weeks old and have had all their jabs … so we should get to look after them for a couple months …

Some friends have asked why we chose to foster cats now … and its simply because we are at a point where we don’t have any holidays planned for some time and as we are approaching the summer months in Dubai we also don’t have any planned visitors coming to stay anytime soon … which is key cause the spare room will need to be kept for the foster kittens initially … and as we are not sure how they well they will get on with the boys … (Hugo and Derek can be quite boisterous when they play) … we may need to keep them separated while we are not home … so if we had visitors it could cause problems there …

Anyway … here are some pictures of Hugo, Derek and the two new little ones from the last few days … First off some of the boys lounging and checking out a new box …

Hugo still loves sleeping in Perry’s cupboard … he was in there for almost 5hrs on this occasion …

Morning feeding time …

See they happily hang out in the corridor … each minding their own business … till Hugo trots over and starts a fight …

This would be Hugo’s ‘Let me sing you the song of my people’ moment …

photoThat tooth just kills me … and with those eyes … he constantly looks somewhat shocked/surprised …

Hiding out behind the column …

A bunch of the cat toys were under the sofa so Hugo watched or ‘Supervised’ while Perry got down on the floor to try and get them out …

Derek’s love affair with Perry’s shoes (or any shoes really) continues … when Perry actually got home shortly after this picture Derek wouldn’t stop meowing at him till he’d taken both his shoes off … Derek then promptly stuck his head in them for a good sniff …

Hugo … just being Hugo … he tends to do this often …

photo 1 Got more kitty grass for the boys … and they seem to be enjoying it so far …

photo 1 (2)On Tuesday afternoon I went to pick up our foster Kittens … all I knew when I got there was that they were 4 weeks old … however, once I arrived I was still shocked at how tiny these little ones really were … so dinky … especially compared to our boys …

I soon learnt that they had been dumped on some wasteland along Al Wasl road in Dubai … all four of them in a cardboard box … no mother cat … nothing … just four little teeny tiny kittens left to fend for themselves … thankfully someone had spotted them and handed them over to Feline Friends … and after volunteering on Monday I found myself going round to collect two of the four babies on Tuesday afternoon …

I had hoped we’d get kittens but I had no idea we’d be getting them that young … the only stipulation I had was that they had to be ok to be left on their own during the day … i.e. that they didn’t need bottle feeding … thankfully these little ones seem to be OK and after an all clear from the vets that morning were cleared to be fostered …

photo 2I took the only boy of the litter (ginger) and one of the girls (tabby) … but it was so hard to leave the other two behind … however, I was reassured that they were being picked up later that afternoon by another foster carer …

photo 3 photoI got them home and set them up in our spare room en-suite … Stef who I had gone to see on Monday after work had lent me a couple of cat toys for them and I soon got them settled in the bathroom … they will probably stay in there for a while and once fully settled they can start getting access to the rest of the bedroom … I didn’t want to overwhelm their little kitten heads with too much stimulation in one go …

photo 5 photo 3I got them some food and to be honest they were pretty quick to settle in … I’d sent Perry a picture of them once I got home but even he was surprised to see how tiny they were when he saw them for the first time …

photo 4 photo 1 photo 4 photo 3

My hand in the above picture is purely for scale … The little ones love to have their chins stroked … much like alot of cats I’ve come across …

photo 2 photo 1

As for their names … well the names they came with were Jaeger for the ginger boy … and Dolce for the tabby girl … (the other two girls were called Hermes and Chloe) … Perry and i just couldn’t live with the idea of calling the kittens after designer brands so after some discussion we settled on Miles and Amy for their names …

photo 5 photo 4 photo 2It all started with Amy actually … she was leaping around in a way that is hard to describe … she’d sort of back up abit wiggling her bum and then leap forward a couple steps … as Perry put it she looked a bit like Sonic the Hedgehog winding up before he shoots off … so I thought we could go with that theme … and Sonic had a Ginger Fox friend called Tails whose actual name was Miles … so that became Jaeger’s new name … and we toyed with simply naming Dolce, Sonic … but then Perry mentioned there was a female Hedgehog in the Sonic game … so after Googling it we figured out her name was Amy-Rose … so Dolce became Amy …

photo 1They are both adventurous and curious cats … Miles is much more brave and curious than Amy who tends to let Miles lead the way … Although she did start tugging on my shorts at one point …

photo 4 photo 5Before leaving them for the night … I filled up one of Perry’s clean socks with rice and microwaved it for a minute to warm it up … it created a nice little snuggling for them cuddle up against to sleep …

photo 5Our boys had quite clearly picked up that we have little kittens hiding in the spare bathroom … and they don’t like that they are not allowed in there to see them … but for now they need to be kept separate as the kittens have not been fully dewormed yet so there is a risk of them passing on something until that is finished … so for now I’m trying to keep the boys happy with a toy they loved last summer while Pooh was staying with us … the green cat tree … (one of the toys Stef lent us but is way too big for the babies at the moment)

photo 2 photo 1

I’m excited and a bit apprehensive about introducing the boys to the kittens … they are just so much tinier than Hugo and Derek I do worry they could hurt them unintentionally … but we will do it gradually and if necessary will keep them separated … hopefully it shouldn’t be a problem …

I’ll leave you with a couple more pictures …

photo 5 photo 1 photo 4That is it for this week … stay tuned for more updates … I’m planning a post about our foster kittens Miles and Amy for later in the week … more photos and even some video clips coming soon …

Till next time …

  1. Oh gosh, this post was just brimming with cuteness! ❤ Most of our cats have been rescued from the streets (the discarded runt of the litter) at a really young age. For the little ones, we make them a little safe box, with a big fluffy towel and a hot water bottle. They love curling up and sleeping in it!
