Istanbul, Turkey … Part 5 … Beylarbey Palace & More Wanderings On The Asian Side …

Hello … welcome to Part 5 of our updates from Istanbul … Only a couple more to go I promise … oh and if you missed out on the previous updates you can follow the links to PART 1 PART 2PART 3 & PART 4  (oh and a special CATURDAY post from yesterday) … for now scroll on down to see what we got up to on our second to last day in Istanbul …

So on the Monday morning we got up quite abit later than usual and after some breakfast and generally getting ready we headed out to go see one of the Palaces on the Asian side … it was one my cousin hadn’t been to see before either so we thought we’d go check that one out … but once we got there we found out the Beylarbey Palace was actually closed on a Monday … as are most of the others around Istanbul … go figure …

_MG_6437-1 _MG_6441-1 _MG_6443-1But the grounds and cafe in the gardens were still open so since we had made the trek there we decided to go and have a look around anyway …

_MG_6446-1 _MG_6450-1 _MG_6452-1And we still got to have a little peek inside from the windows …

_MG_6454-1 _MG_6456-1 _MG_6459-1It was really quite pretty and one of the Bosphorus bridges was built right next to it …

_MG_6478-1 _MG_6463-1 _MG_6468-1 _MG_6476-1 _MG_6485-1 _MG_6490-1_MG_6502-1 _MG_6505-1 _MG_6509-1 _MG_6515-1 _MG_6521-1 _MG_6528-1We sat at the cafe for a little drink and to enjoy the sunny morning … and a couple of ducks made their way past us at one point … Perry fed them a chocolate biscuit or two …

_MG_6532-1 _MG_6565-1 _MG_6570-1 _MG_6582-1 _MG_6571-1 _MG_6574-1After we started walking back towards the bus stop along the banks of the Bosphorus enjoying the sunshine and the good weather …

_MG_6586-1 _MG_6592-1 _MG_6595-1 _MG_6596-1 _MG_6604-1 _MG_6607-1 _MG_6613-1 _MG_6615-1 _MG_6616-1 _MG_6618-1 _MG_6619-1Once back in Kadikoy Saghi took us for some lunch at a restaurant that is famous for a particular type of kebab … known as Iskandar Kebab … it has a base of bread, kebab meat (similar to doner but different), a tomato based sauce and then served with yoghurt and topped with hot melted butter at the table … it was so good …

_MG_6628-1 _MG_6620-1 _MG_6625-1 _MG_6627-1 _MG_6632-1Once we were done we walked around the Kadikoy shopping area … it was noticeably less crowded this time …

_MG_6642-1We stopped by a sweet shop to get some Turkish Delight … cant come to Turkey and not get some Turkish Delight … Perry was somewhat shocked to learn I’d never had turkish delight before … thing is I think I did have it once when I was younger but I didn’t like it much … and just haven’t tried it again … had some while we were waiting around and it was quite tasty but there are other sweets I’d prefer …

_MG_6681-1 _MG_6676-1 _MG_6688-1 _MG_6692-1We headed back to the the apartment after this and rested for an hour or so until Mehran got back from work before we went out for dinner …

_MG_6698-1 _MG_6701-1Walking along the main shopping road outside of my cousin’s home towards the restaurant it almost felt like you were walking around West London … it was all leafy green and I guess the lovely weather and late afternoon sunshine made everything look extra pretty …

_MG_6707-1 _MG_6708-1 _MG_6711-1 _MG_6713-1 _MG_6722-1 _MG_6744-1 _MG_6746-1The restaurant we headed to was called Cinaralti Mangalbasi (I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do the letters with the accents on them) … which is a restaurant where you select what meat and veg you want … they bring it to the table and you grill it yourself at the table … along with salads and other sides served along side it …

_MG_6750-1 _MG_6753-1 _MG_6754-1One pretty awesome thing they do here is they use the shells from nuts for the embers as they don’t turn to ash and fly around everywhere at the slightest bit of wind … which I thought was an amazing idea …

_MG_6759-1Anyway we had a lovely evening … lots of great conversation and brilliant food … were absolutely stuffed by the end of it … and it was a great way to spend our last night in Istanbul …

That is it for this post … stay tuned for the next update coming very soon …

Till next time …
