Istanbul, Turkey … Part 4 … A Spot Of Breakfast & Wandering Round Kadikoy …

Hello everyone … this will be the 4th post from our Istanbul trip … if you missed it you can catch up with PART 1 PART 2 & PART 3 … by following the links … this post covers what we got up to on our 3rd full day in Istanbul … in the end it turned out rather differently than we had originally planned … but we had a good time nonetheless …

In the morning Perry and I checked out of our hotel and were picked up by Mehran and Saghi … as we headed off to go get breakfast near the Bosphorous … Mehran explained he was having some issues with his eyes and thought he just had a bad cold that was causing the problem so asked if Perry could drive … so he did … and we managed to get to the cafe for breakfast after getting through a couple patches of heavy traffic …

_MG_6259-1 _MG_6260-1 _MG_6261-1 _MG_6263-1The place was called Nar Cafe … and it was packed … always a good sign really … so after queuing up for a bit we finally got a table and soon placed our orders …

_MG_6271-1Unintentionally Perry and Mehran appeared to have coordinated their outfits that day … and both with such serious faces stirring their tea …

_MG_6276-1The food was delicious … and it was a pleasant morning to sit outside (albeit in the shade) … and have breakfast …

_MG_6278-1 _MG_6279-1 _MG_6281-1 _MG_6282-1 _MG_6287-1 _MG_6284-1After we were done with the food we headed back to the car … Mehran was still feeling unwell … if anything he was getting worse and was struggling to keep his eyes open … so we decided we would cross back over to the Asian side and take him home so he could go see a doctor while we headed out for the rest of the day …

However we got stuck in some pretty horrendous traffic trying to get back … as it turned out there was a bike race happening that day and a bunch of the roads had been closed off … but there had been very little signage or any advanced notices to let people know about this … so we ended up getting caught in all the traffic trying to find their way around the road closures to get to where they needed to be …

_MG_6295-1With Perry driving … Saghi and Mehran trying to decide which direction to go in and me intermittently having to translate directions for him … we eventually made our way to Kadikoy on the Asian side … it took about 2hrs in the end to get there and the road leading to my cousin’s home had been closed off so unless we wanted to walk it with all our luggage we would have to wait it out in the centre of Kadikoy till the roads opened up again … so we parked up the  car … Mehran went to see a doctor at the nearby hospital … and we decided to make the most of our time by wandering the nearby streets …

_MG_6362-1 _MG_6364-1 _MG_6416-1Perry had really sore legs after all the stop start driving and combined with busy shopping streets he was not in the best of moods that afternoon … he’s just not a fan of busy streets … We don’t go to the mall on a Friday afternoon/night for this very reason … its just too busy … so we started with a Starbucks stop to refresh and give Perry a chance to rest a bit …

We ended up wandering around some of the outdoor market areas and Saghi picked up some fruits and other bits … and after an hour or so we headed back to the car where we met Mehran and headed back to their home … it still took close to an hour to do a 5min car journey due to the back log of cars trying to get through … but once we got in no one was in the mood to go back outside again …

_MG_6315-1 _MG_6327-1 _MG_6345-1 _MG_6350-1 _MG_6352-1 _MG_6359-1 _MG_6361-1So we spent the evening at home chatting … telling stories … listening to Yekta play the Piano and looking through old photos … it ended up being a very relaxing evening in which I think was what we really needed by this point …

Oh and incase you were wondering it turned out Mehran had some sort of bacterial infection with his eyes … the doctor prescribed a bunch of stuff and he was fine the next morning 😛

That is it for this post … Stay tuned for more updates … only a couple more to go …

Till next time …
