Istanbul, Turkey … Part 3 … Prince Islands

Hello and welcome to Part 3 of our trip to Istanbul … we spent our second full day in the city actually escaping the city … along with my cousin Saghi, her husband Mehran and daughter Yekta … we all headed off to one of the Prince Islands for the day … and in case you missed it you can see PART 1 and PART 2 by following the links …

In the morning Perry and I headed back into the centre of Istanbul  …

_MG_5821-1we headed towards the Galata Bridge to catch a ferry over to the Asian side where we were meeting my cousin and her family … it was the first ferry ride we took so far on our trip but it certainly wasn’t about to be the last …

_MG_5889-1 _MG_5919-1 _MG_5930-1 _MG_5945-1 _MG_5950-1 _MG_5953-1We were headed for the largest of the five inhabited islands … once we got there we started by going for a stroll through the main streets near the ferry terminal …

_MG_5955-1 _MG_5961-1 _MG_5962-1 We came back to this place later for ice cream … so yummy!

_MG_5977-1 _MG_5978-1We stopped to get some fruit to nibble on as we walked around …

_MG_6214-1 _MG_6227-1_MG_5982-1 _MG_5989-1 _MG_5999-1 _MG_6009-1 _MG_6012-1 _MG_6014-1Then wandered along the coast a bit … until we decided on which restaurant to stop at for some lunch …

_MG_6016-1 _MG_6017-1 _MG_6022-1 _MG_6026-1 _MG_6027-1 _MG_6031-1 _MG_6032-1 _MG_6034-1 _MG_6036-1I love how everywhere in Istanbul and Turkey in general they serve their tea in the traditional little tea glasses …

_MG_6052-1We ended up at a restaurant with lovely views out over the water … Mehran was explaining how the outdoor areas of the restaurants used to be completely open air … but then the seagulls would come and land on your table and join you for lunch … which I actually thought sounded like fun … but clearly enough people complained as they now had the seating area all covered over … nonetheless there were no shortages of seagulls trying to get in the open windows …

_MG_6065-1 _MG_6073-1 _MG_6074-1 _MG_6060-1 _MG_6076-1After food we headed over to take a horse and buggy ride around the island … its a nice way to see the whole place if you don’t have the time or the energy to walk all the way round it yourself … it was really relaxing and we enjoyed the time talking and telling stories … as the horse and cart wandered through the little streets and woodland areas …

_MG_6086-1 _MG_6087-1 _MG_6090-1 _MG_6100-1 _MG_6113-1 _MG_6121-1 _MG_6133-1 _MG_6142-1Eventually our buggy driver pulled over at a little tea shop and we all hopped out for a toilet break and a cup of tea … the views from this place were amazing … Mehran told us they had done this little buggy ride a number of times with different guests who come to stay but this was the first time that he had stopped here …

_MG_6163-1 _MG_6160-1 _MG_6167-1 _MG_6166-1 _MG_6169-1 _MG_6174-1Some tea … and Yekta had a coffee …

_MG_6181-1 _MG_6185-1 _MG_6186-1_MG_6195-1 _MG_6204-1 _MG_6205-1Once back in the main shopping area near the ferry port we had just enough time to grab some ice cream from Mado … all their ice cream is made with Goats milk … its so deliciously creamy … I loved the stuff …

_MG_6229-1 _MG_6233-1 _MG_6238-1Before we hopped back onto the ferry to the mainland …

_MG_6243-1 _MG_6244-1That is it for this post … stay tuned for Part 4 coming soon …

Till next time …
