Istanbul, Turkey … Part 2 … Seeing The Sights Continued …

So picking up where I left off on Sunday with PART 1 of our trip to Istanbul, after we wandered around the Hagia Sophia we were all getting quite hungry … so we headed off to grab a bite to eat at a nearby cafe …

_MG_5527-1 _MG_5511-1 _MG_5517-1 _MG_5519-1 _MG_5521-1 _MG_5522-1Following this we wandered over to the Blue Mosque … we ended up only wandering around the gardens outside the mosque as the queue to go see inside it was astronomical and was almost entirely in the sun … so standing round in the blaring middle of the day heat did not sound appealing to any of us at that time …

Needless to say Perry (and I but to a much lesser extent) ended up a little pink by the end of the day … once ice creams were eaten and we’d rested enough we headed back onto the tram for a couple stops to go check out the Grand Bazaar …

_MG_5637-1 _MG_5644-1 _MG_5645-1We wandered the different alley ways in the covered market and randomly turned left and right when we got to a junction … just wandering around and stopping to look at anything that caught our eye …

We did actually pick up a couple of Heat Plates (to protect surfaces from hot pans etc) and a bunch of miss-matched coasters … we wanted to get something as a souvenir f our trip to Istanbul but also wanted something practical for our home too …

_MG_5656-1 _MG_5668-1 _MG_5669-1 _MG_5671-1Once we were done at the market we made our way back towards Istiklal street and down a narrow side street full of bars and restaurants where we set ourselves up at one of the patio areas with a beer and waited for my Cousin’s daughter Yekta to join us after she finished school to then go for some dinner …

_MG_5676-1 _MG_5686-1 _MG_5693-1 _MG_5701-1 _MG_5711-1We grabbed a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant and stopped for some more ice cream after … this was proving to be a theme for our weekend … I think we probably ended up having ice cream at least once a day during our time in Istanbul … not that I’m complaining … I’m always happy to stop for ice cream …

_MG_5720-1Stay tuned for more updates coming tomorrow …

Till next time …
