Jumeirah Beach Park Picnic …

So last weekend Perry and I finally went for a little picnic in one of the Parks here … I had wanted to do a Picnic at Jumeirah Beach Park (or any of the other parks really) pretty much since we first moved here … but a picnic was always trumped by something else … and as it happened we never got round to it … I had even tried to plan one for when our families were out … but again something else would always be a higher priority than a simple picnic …

So anyway a couple weeks ago we decided this past Saturday was going to be the day we finally have this picnic … and it went into our Diaries and we promised not to bump it for something else this time …

_MG_1859-1 _MG_1955-1 _MG_1873-1I was off sick for half of last week and I’ve come to realise that when I’m home ill and have a kitchen cupboard stocked with baking stuffs I have this overwhelming desire to bake sweet things … so I had whipped up a batch of Red Velvet Macarons and some Yummy Meringues … (I’ve linked to the recipes I used for these) … it was the first time I had made either of these and both came out really well … the meringue recipe I used was for plain ones but I did half the batch plain and then mixed in some Cocoa powder to make the other half chocolate … turned out really well …

_MG_1870-1 _MG_1872-1 _MG_1864-1 Perry unintentionally matching his shirt with the plates … :S

_MG_1878-1Anyway so we headed to the park and along the way picked up a couple of sandwiches from the Lime Tree Cafe and Latte’s from our favourite Petrol station (seriously its the best coffee I’ve had here so far) … it was quite quiet when we got there and we set up in the grassy area and got on with some eating … it was very good but we did end up with abit of a sugar overload … I had wanted to make a salad to have as well but somewhere along the way I forgot … we really could have used a few veggies to help balance out all the sugar we consumed …

_MG_1881-1 _MG_1886-1 _MG_1889-1 _MG_1896-1 _MG_1892-1 _MG_1902-1I’m not complaining though … it was all very yummy …

_MG_1910-1 _MG_1905-1After we ate we tidied up the remaining food stuff … and put everything back in the car before going for a wander round the park … you know to work off a small part of all that food we’d just eaten …

Its actually a lovely park with a big stretch of beach … there are loads of little BBQ areas with benches … play areas for kids and loads of grass perfect for kicking a ball around … certainly a place we would come back too …

_MG_1918-1 _MG_1922-1 _MG_1937-1 _MG_1948-1He seems to have decided to match the benches too …

_MG_1957-1 _MG_1960-1 _MG_1961-1 _MG_1983-1 _MG_1984-1There are actually quite alot of parks in Dubai but we really haven’t made the effort to go and see them … something I would like to do more of …

_MG_1988-1 _MG_1999-1 _MG_2006-1 _MG_2010-1 _MG_2036-1 _MG_2049-1 _MG_2057-1Anyway we had a great few hours wandering round and relaxing in the park …  It was nice to have some down time and relax without thinking too much about everything else that we need to do …

The heat has started to pick up now … so by the end of it we were both quite drained from the sun … and Perry got a little sunburn on his forehead …

We got home and played with the Kittens abit … although I think they prefered lounging in the spare room … For Hugo getting onto Perry’s chair is like the Holy Grail … and Derek loves nothing more than to nap on the window ledge in the afternoon sun …

_MG_2083-1 _MG_2088-1 _MG_2092-1 _MG_2101-1I’ll be back tomorrow with more updates from my Iran trip …

Till next time …

  1. Really great photos and looks like the weather was conducive to the vibrance of them all. Your cooking skills rock! I’d love to try making macarons one day. BTW, what was on your grilled sandwiches? They looked yummy!
