Bastakiya … Dubai Spice & Gold Souks … & Abra Boat Trip …

On Sunday I took my Mum to the old part of Dubai … around Bastakiya and the Souks of the city up by the Creek … I hadn’t actually been to this part of Dubai before myself having waited to go with someone who was visiting … and as it worked out those who visited were either not interested in going or went at a time when I couldn’t go … so its now been over a year since we moved here and I have finally had a chance to go … (apologies in advance for another photo heavy post) …

Started with a relaxed morning at home … and after some lunch we headed out to catch the Metro to Bur Dubai … My mum hadn’t been on the Metro yet in Dubai and I knew she would appreciate the views of the city as we went along …

_MG_8337-1We noticed a Laundry which hung its customers clothes over bicycles to dry them …

_MG_8340-1We soon got to the part of Bur Dubai we were looking for … the Dubai Museum and the Bastakiya area which has been preserved to show how Dubai used to look like before all the development …

_MG_8547-1 _MG_8557-1_MG_8561-1 IMG_1146-1 _MG_8572-1 IMG_1151-1We carried on along the Creek and the Abra driver would point out different places of interest and buildings worth noting … he also explained where the different Wooden cargo boats came from … they come from all over the place but mainly from Iran, India, Pakistan, Somalia and Kenya …

_MG_8659-1 IMG_1158-1Once we were back on dry land we headed straight for the Spice and Gold Souk’s … we wandered round … had an Ice Cream and my mum got some Green Tea …

_MG_8792-1 _MG_8794-1 _MG_8806-1 _MG_8814-1My mum managed to get this pretty awesome snap of the Burj Al Arab from the train on our way home … 🙂

IMG_1165-1Anyway thats it for this time … we had a great day out in Old Dubai … it was a first for me as well as my Mum and the Abra trip was truly the highlight of the afternoon …

Till next time …
