Oman Road Trip … Day 4 … Boat Trip & Dolphin Watching …

This is Part 4 of our trip to Oman … you can read PART 1 … PART 2 … and PART 3 by following the links …

On our final full day we had to get up early … rush breakfast and get out of the door quickly … we had a boat to catch after all … and with an 8.30am start we left with plenty of time to get to the Marina on the other side of Muscat … even so we still managed to get caught up in the early morning rush hour …

_MG_5891-1 _MG_5895-1 _MG_5894-1But we made it on time … after waiting around for a few more people it became quickly apparent they were not going to make it … so they got moved onto a later trip and we boarded our boat … there were only two other people on our boat and a little toddler … Perks of travelling in the Off-Season …

_MG_5897-1 _MG_5903-1We headed out into the Gulf of Oman to see the Dolphins first … on the way out Perry and I enjoyed the wind in our hair … although in one photo it looks like my hair is trying to eat my face (Zombie hair maybe?) …

_MG_5916-1 _MG_5921-1 _MG_5928-1 _MG_5943-1The clouds were also amazing … Perry and I couldn’t get over all the fluffy white clouds … it was amazing … We don’t tend to get much in terms of clouds in Dubai … occasionally you do but mostly its either clear blue skies, hazy skies … or really wishy washy type clouds … proper Cartoon style fluffy white ones are rare … so we really enjoyed them …

_MG_5909-1 _MG_5942-1We made it out to where the dolphins were pretty quick … and it was amazing … there were so many of them too … jumping around swimming along … and being playful … we followed them for a bit and took so many pictures … it was hard for me to narrow down my favourites after …

_MG_6048-1 _MG_6049-1The rest of the passengers … and our Captain in Blue!

_MG_6176-1 _MG_6211-1This is probably on of my favourite pictures from the day … (check out those sun rays … and dolphins along the bottom too) … click to see it bigger …

_MG_6298-1Following this we headed along to a quiet alcove with lots of beautiful corals and calm waters … perfect for snorkelling … but along the way we could see the coral and some fish through the glass bottom of the boat we were on …

_MG_6317-1 _MG_6322-1 _MG_6341-1 _MG_6363-1 _MG_6367-1 _MG_6376-1Perry and I also went Snorkelling for a bit too … we came prepared with the Go Pro so we could take some pictures under the water too … and while the sea here wasn’t the clearest … (something to do with the time of year) … we were still able to see a fair bit … although I’ve saved the images from this for another post …

_MG_6380-1 _MG_6390-1After we were finished in the water Perry and I took turns to have a quick shower in the on board shower/toilet … and as we were making our way back we even caught brief glimpses of a couple Turtles in the waters … unfortunately not a long enough glimpse for me to be able to get a picture … We took a slightly longer route back and did a coastal tour from the boat … saw a few smaller towns along the way too …

_MG_6580-1 _MG_6524-1 _MG_6519-1 _MG_6487-1The rock in the picture above looks abit like a Lion’s head dont you think?

_MG_6479-1 _MG_6456-1The boat even took us past the Shangri-La resort …

_MG_6418-1 _MG_6428-1 _MG_6435-1 _MG_6445-1 _MG_6448-1 _MG_6454-1Once back at the Marina we hopped into the car and headed back to the Guesthouse … along the way we stopped to get some food and took it back to eat lunch in our room … we had a relaxed afternoon and started getting our things in order for leaving the next morning …

_MG_6602-1My hair went abit crazy in all the wind … Our boat below … and the Marina walkway …

_MG_6604-1 _MG_6605-1In the evening we went to the Crowne Plaza hotel for some dinner at the Iranian restaurant they had there called Shiraz … while the food tasted good … and the place was lovely … overall we didn’t think it was that great … our Waitress looked miserable all evening … and our main dishes arrived barely warm … (we ordered kebabs and rice so it should have been hot) … but the saving grace of the place was the amazing Spinach dish we had to start (dont remember the name and have never had it before myself) … and their fresh bread that they made … although it was more like Indian Naan bread than traditional Iranian bread … and the food was overpriced for the portion size and quality we got … The place gets great reviews on Trip Advisor so maybe we went on a bad night … even so I would’t recomend it as a good example of Iranian food …

The next morning we decided to leave pretty early … we were on the road before 8am … We had really missed the kittens all weekend and couldn’t wait to get back to them … also Perry had to go in to his HO on the way back so he could sort out some paperwork stuff for leaving the company … we had no trouble on our return trip and made it back to Dubai by the early afternoon … plenty of play time with the kittens …

Stay tuned for the final update of our trip … & pictures from our Snorkelling adventures …

Till next time …

Mina X
