Thursday’s Weekly Roundup … Oman, Work & Weekend Plans …

Hello everyone … welcome to another weekly roundup … alot has happened this last week … the biggest thing being our trip to Oman last weekend … I won’t go into too much detail in this post about what we got up to … I’m planning a bunch of posts about the trip with loads of photos to go along with it … otherwise this will just be too long and I will bore you all before you get to the 3rd paragraph (if I haven’t already put you to sleep) …

I’ll give you a brief rundown of what we got up to though … We ended up packing late Thursday evening … the kittens were being all inquisitive around the bags … I’m pretty sure they knew we were going away … they dont like the suitcases much … although I think Derek may have wanted to come along with us …

photo 1We left really early in the morning on Friday… i.e. 4am … and we got to the Omani border in time for sunrise … which was awesome … but with about 7 check points to get past (I think it was probably less but it felt like loads at the time) … it wasn’t so bad considering it was so early in the morning we didn’t have to wait in any queues … big bonus …

photo 4Perry and I shared the driving and after about 10 toilet stops we finally made it to our hotel at the Shangri-La by 12pm … checked in and went to our room … had a pretty lazy day for the rest of the afternoon and then went for a walk around the resort to see what was around before settling on room service for dinner …

Saturday was spent lazing by the pool for the morning … had lunch at a small restaurant by the beach and an equally lazy and relaxing afternoon … it was pretty much the same story again for Sunday morning before our late checkout … to be honest we needed those 2-3 days of just doing nothing … relaxing and totally unwinding … I can’t actually remember the last time I had such a relaxing start to a holiday …

Sunday afternoon we headed over to the Nomad Guesthouse in Muscat where we stayed for the next two nights … they had an amazingly quirky rooftop garden/deck area which we didn’t really get to make much use from unfortunately … but the hosts were incredibly helpful and we would have no trouble going back there again … in the afternoon we checked out the Souk and old parts of Muscat …

Sunday was also the UAE’s National Day … I even got a congratulatory text message from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum himself …

photo 3Monday we did a boat trip where we went Dolphin watching … snorkelling in the corals (even briefly saw some turtles) … and had a tour of Muscat’s coastline … the weather for it was perfect … blue skies and fluffy white clouds …

We left pretty early Tuesday morning to get back to Dubai … mostly cause we missed the kittens so much but also cause Perry needed to drop into his company’s office to sort out some stuff for when he leaves …

We got home and played with the kittens loads … they seemed very happy and excited to see us again … I was really glad to see they were so well looked after while we were gone and even Derek came out to play with the pet sitter … both boys were being extra cuddly that evening and followed us around wherever we went … I think they might have missed us … I was really happy with our pet sitter this time round … and the boys seem to have gotten on well with her too … they even got a glowing report from her …

photoThe last two days have been back to usual and back at work … although as lovely as it is to have a 2 day week it just makes it that much more hectic … doing a weeks’ work in two days is tough! … but we did atleast get to console ourselves with the Advent Calendar Perry’s parents got for us … we got to catch up on a few days when we got back … bonus!

photo 5This morning on the way to work the car’s AC switched to heating … we usually have the temp in the car set to about 23-24 degrees … but as it was only about 20 degrees outside it turned the heating on … this was a first for us … guess winter really is here now …

Weekend plans are pretty relaxed this weekend … trying not to do too much … we are off to a Holiday/Christmas party on Friday evening and I’ve decided to make RED VELVET CUPCAKES to take along … and the party is actually in the same building as ours so we won’t have to go too far … just down the lift …

I think on Saturday we’re going to try and sort ourselves out with a Christmas tree … I don’t think we will be going with a big tree … what with the kittens being so inquisitive we’re worried they will hurt themselves while we are not around to keep an eye on them … we also don’t have anywhere to put to the tree where they cant get to it either … so we are going to try and get a small 2ft tree that can sit on the breakfast bar counter where the cats can’t get to it … anyone else have the same problem with cats and trees? Any advice?

After visiting the Doctors a couple weeks ago I got a bunch more medication to take for my allergies/headaches … urgh … I’m starting to feel like I could open up my own pharmacy with the amount of pills and nasal sprays I have to take … having said that the picture below isn’t even all of it … there is one other pill I’m supposed to take but the pharmacy was out of stock … I’m back again at the Dr’s this week for a follow up …

photo 2Oh and its only 2 weeks left till my mum gets here … eek exciting … so far it has become apparent that my Dad won’t be able to make it … due to work and other such fun stuff … but he has plans to come see us early next year hopefully … and my brother is pretty sure he is coming but still hasn’t booked a ticket …

So that is it for this week … wishing you all a great weekend … things are starting to get more festive around here … although the weather makes it all feel abit strange …

Till next time …
