Leaving for Thailand … & Yet Another Trip To The Vets!

Hey Everyone, this is going to be the first of several posts about our trip to Thailand last week … this one is gonna be quite short about the day we left …

Both Perry & I managed to get off work early on 15th March and even though our flight wasn’t until 11pm it turned out to be a really good thing … Derek had still been poorly and after initially appearing to have gotten better his diarrhoea hadn’t completely cleared up and was still intermittent … and on top of this he had developed a twitch in his left eye and was constantly squinting … Even though I knew I was probably overreacting we made an emergency appointment to see the vet to get him checked over again before we left for Thailand … more to reassure myself that there wasn’t anything wrong …

The boys being playful in the morning the day we were leaving ...

In the end it turned out to be a good idea, the vet gave him some more medication for  the diarrhoea and after a closer look it became clear that he had a slight scratch on his eye … probably from tumbling around with Hugo when they were playing … so we were given some ointment for that too … So with Derek who by this point was distinctly unimpressed and his goody bag of medication we headed back home …

The mischevious duo strike again - any thing is a climbing toy to them

We got home with about enough time to whip up a bit of dinner for ourselves, do a final check over the flat, play with and feed the kittens … all before we left to go to the airport … At the door while Perry was sorting out his bag Hugo took it upon himself to climb aboard and refused to budge … he was pretty adamant he was going to go with us … and it literally broke my heart leaving them behind when we had to go …

Hugo was insisting we take him too ...

We decided to take the metro to the Airport as at that time of the evening the route to the Airport is just congested with traffic … it just isn’t worth taking a taxi … the metro is quicker, and other than a 10mins walk to the station it isn’t really any less convenient that the taxi option …

Once at the airport and all checked in we went and signed up to get our E-gate cards … took about 20mins and we just ended up with another form of photo identification … but this time the card gets us through passport control significantly faster as we dont have to queue up and just go through the automated gates …

After wandering around the airport duty free and the having a couple drinks in the lounge we got on our flight … we had a relatively easy flight … not much turbulence … watched a couple movies … had some food … but even after a couple Gin and Tonics sleep still eluded us … it meant by the time we landed in Bangkok we both hadn’t slept much … short bursts of dozing was the best we could manage on the plane …

I was hoping this would help me sleep ... didnt work ...

We arrived at 7.30am … tired and totally unprepared for the intensity of the heat, humidity and pollution that was waiting for us in Bangkok …

Stay tuned for more updates …

Till next time …

P.S. for those of you who are concerned about Derek and how he is doing … when we got back from Thailand we learnt from our Pet Sitter that he was still having intermittent diarrhoea even after completing his course of medication (although not as bad as before) … so we booked another appointment (with a different vet this time) and took him in the morning after we landed back … turns out the first vet had given him the right medication but not enough … and we discovered he had a viral infection of Giardia … we got more medication, some antibiotics, specialist food, and a cone for him to wear to stop him cleaning & re-infecting himself (the reason why the medication so far hasn’t had a chance to work properly) … anyway so other than looking a little bit pathetic with the cone on … he is definitely on the mend now …

He manages to have this really sad look on his face with the cone on!
